Before You Buy: Measure the Space for Your Pet’s New Product

A product can fit within the dimensions of a room and still be awkward to use. Measure the space your pet and you will need around it, not just the footprint listed on the product page.

Mark out the footprint

Use a tape measure to mark the proposed location. Include the bowl projection on a feeder or the entry area of a litter product. Check that doors open freely and that the item will not narrow a busy walkway.

Allow room for normal movement

Your pet needs a comfortable approach and exit. For beds, compare the usable sleeping area with how your pet usually rests. For enclosed products, consider entrance size as well as overall dimensions, using the selected model’s suitability guidance.

Plan for refilling and cleaning

Imagine removing the bowl, lifting a lid or sliding out a tray. A convenient-looking corner may not provide enough overhead clearance. Check whether the item needs to be unplugged or moved for maintenance, and leave access to the parts you will use regularly.

Check power and placement together

Choose a location with an appropriate power source when one is required. Avoid trailing cables across walkways or placing equipment where it can be splashed. For connected products, check the stated network requirements before deciding on a location.

Similar-looking products can have different capacities, controls and dimensions. Recheck the exact variant in your basket. Keep a note of the measurements and compare them with the product information before ordering.

A quick space check can also reveal which features matter to you: a removable bowl you can reach easily, a bed that suits a favourite sleeping position, or a device that can sit close enough to a power point.
