A Five-Minute Daily Check for Your Pet’s Smart Devices
A repeatable check of power, food, water, cleanliness and settings before you leave home.

Smart pet products are most useful when their basic upkeep becomes a habit. Build a short check around the devices you actually use, and make it easy for another caregiver to follow the same routine.
Look at the device, not only the app
An app screen is helpful, but it cannot show every spill, blocked outlet or loose cable. Start with a physical check. Make sure the device is stable, connected as intended and free of obvious damage.
Check what your pet needs today
Look at food and water levels rather than relying only on a refill reminder. Check that food can reach the bowl and that the fountain has normal flow. Remove visible debris and use the product’s cleaning instructions for any deeper maintenance.
Review the settings after a change
If you have changed Wi-Fi, moved the device, changed kibble or adjusted a schedule, test the relevant function while at home. Check the device time and scheduled meals after setup changes. Where backup power is supported, follow the manual for checking it and understand which functions it powers.
Keep a simple handover note
For a family member or pet sitter, write down the ordinary routine, the location of food and spare supplies, and how to switch to manual care. Include your contact details and explain which alerts need attention. Avoid sharing your main account password when the product offers a separate sharing feature.
Know what automation cannot tell you
A dispensing event does not prove that the intended animal ate the meal. A camera view does not replace checking on the pet in person. Keep human care arrangements in place whenever you are away.
Save this short sequence: power, food, water, cleanliness, settings, pet. Repeating it is more useful than adding complicated checks you will rarely complete.
